Illustrated Book Project -2

2nd Progress

Critiques from lecturer:

1. "Edward Scissorhands," the story itself is already memorable enough for most of the people who had watched it, so even if I really do create a new look for it, it will never be as good as the original one.

2. Plus, note that students are require to write out our own version of a story, not literally taking everything from an existing story. Try to reconsider and deconstruct the original idea of "Edward Scissorhands", and from there, come out with an interesting story from a different perspective, like Warm Bodies for example.

So after the critique session, I have came out with certain keywords for brainstorming after deconstructing the idea behind "Edward Scissorhands" :

1. Reanimation. The idea of Edward Scissorhands, the man-made machine/ creature/ thing that was brought to life and have emotions like a human being. Similar to Frankenstein and frankenweenie.

2. Unique Perspective. Movies like Edward Scissorhands talks about a machine/creature desperately dreams to be normal and romance, while Frankenstein wants to find a place he could belong to and Warm Bodies, the movie is not yet but the plot is interesting to talk about an undead somehow is able to feel again and falls in love with this girl.

3. Death. Most of Tim Burton's movies are dark 'humour-ish' and related to death. I found that people are somehow interested in things that is not logic, like giving life to death itself. I will consider from the thought of it.

4. Target Audience. Choosing the right target audience will set myself in a direction/tone for my story, and also the way of storytelling it.
